Welcome to my website, I am the volunteer Warden at The Devenish, and I have created this website to celebrate the joy of this special Reserve.
Richard
This website is intended to show the glory of the Devenish Reserve. The website was launched on 19 September 2011 and will inevitably grow in scope over many months or (more probably) years. Click on one of the categories above, and see my notes and pictures for that subject. All the photographs (and a few videos) were taken on the reserve, and all but a very few were taken by me - I have noted the few exceptions and given credit to the photgrapher. If you spot any errors, please let me know on "r n death @ hotmail . com" without any spaces or speech marks.
The Devenish Reserve is located in Little Durnford, in the Woodford valley about 3 miles to the north of Salisbury in Wiltshire. It extends over about 60 acres, of which about 40 acres is woodland and 20 acres chalk grassland.
The views across the valley from the top of the grassland slopes are absolutely magnificent at all times, but especially so in spring and autumn (and in summer and winter !!). One small example is shown above - in this case in early summer.
Entrance is free, and the reserve is open to the public at all times.
A steep slope separates a strip parallel to the road, and access to the higher area is via 63 steps, and there is a convenient Hornbeam at the top of the steps to rest against!
The car park has space for about 8 cars.
Whilst the Bridle Way from Old Sarum passes very close to the reserve boundary in a couple of places. there is no official access from this path (see map on geography page).
The Devenish Reserve is owned and managed by Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, and I am the volunteer warden. Any mistakes, opinions expressed, pictures and descriptions on this website are all mine (unless I expressly state otherwise).
